Administration

 

Pastor Joe Mendez

Pastor Joe Mendez has been a member of Calvary Chapel Downey for over 30 years and has served the Lord in various ministries in the church. He became a Jr. High Math teacher in the year 2000 and has loved serving and ministering in Junior High ever since. Pastor Joe has been married to his wife Susie for 36 years and has 3 children whom all have graduated from CCCS. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Vanguard University. This year he will be stepping into the role of principal of the Jr. High & High School.


Dr. kristina young-goodner

Dr. Young-Goodner attended CCCS from K-12 before she went on to earn Bachelor of Music Degrees in Vocal Performance and Music Education along with a California Teaching Credential from Biola University. She also holds a Master’s in Education from Biola, as well as a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Azusa Pacific University. In addition to being the Director of our Vocal Music Program, Dr. Young-Goodner functions as a Master Teacher for CCCS and Biola University, is an adjunct professor at Hope International University and Biola University, and is a member of the accreditation agency WASC. This year she will be stepping into the role of vice-principal for the Junior High and High School.


Mrs. Peggy Kravig

Peggy has been on staff at CCCS since 2001.  She currently holds an administrative position as Dean of Students. She loves working with the students and desires to inspire them to love Jesus more.  Having the privilege of being an influence in the lives of young people is a great blessing and honor to her.  Peggy received her biblical counseling training from Calvary Chapel Bible College and Moody Bible Institute. She has been involved in various aspects of biblical counseling ministries over the past 35 years here at Calvary Chapel. 


Pastor Roger Stahlhut

Pastor Roger graduated from the University of Oregon with a BS in History. He holds a life time California teaching credential in History and Physical Education. His experience includes teaching various subjects and coaching both Football and Wrestling. He left the public school system to enter into ministry after being ordained as a pastor at Calvary Chapel South Bay. He has served in various ministries including church and school planting. In the last 5 years at CCCS he was the School Administrator and High School Principal. This year he will be serving as JH/HS School Pastor ministering to the faculty, students and parents in Biblical counseling and training for Revive America outreaches.


Mrs. Diana Norton

Mrs. Norton has taught 4th grade at CCCS and has held various administrative positions as well.  Before CCCS, Mrs. Norton taught various grade levels in a public school for 10 years.  She feels that she is a teacher by nature and enjoys working with students and adults.  Mrs. Norton earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Child Development from California State University, Los Angeles.  She also holds a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with a bilingual, cross-cultural, language and academic development emphasis (BCLAD,) from the California State University at Dominguez Hills.  Currently, as College Counselor she assists students in their future college plans.  

 


Mr. Mike Nuno

Mike Nuño is a Calvary Chapel Christian School alumnus. He has earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training from California State University, Long Beach and also earned his credential as a BOC-Certified Athletic Trainer. Mr. Nuño has served as our Athletic Director since 2013 and also serves as our Head Football Coach, Athletic Trainer and Alumni Fellowship Coordinator. He is happily married with two children. 


 

Faculty

Mrs. Mayie Advincula

Mrs. Advincula received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and her Master’s Degree in Political Science at the University of the Philippines. She also holds a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Administration, as well as Single Subject Credential in Social Science from Hope International University and plans to pursue an Administrative Credential.  This school year, she is teaching 12th Grade Government/Economics, JH/HS ELD and JH/HS Computers.  


Pastor Kevin Bradburn

Pastor Kevin started attending Calvary Chapel Downey in 1979 and has served the Lord in various ministries. He has served as an Assistant Pastor and at CCD he has served in high school ministry, security and at the Pastor’s desk. Pastor Kevin is a retired Police Officer of 27 years where he also served as a Police Chaplain. He became the Junior High Bible teacher last year and this year will be our High School Bible teacher. Pastor Kevin has been married to his wife, Laura, for 29 years and they have one daughter, who is also a teacher.


Mrs. Rhodora  Brouillette

Rhodora Brouillette graduated from the University of Santo Tomas with a Bachelor Degree in Education, and she also completed her Masters Degree in Special Education-teaching the deaf and hard of hearing children (MA-SPED HI),  from the Philippine Normal University. She has been involved in the sign language profession as a SPED Teacher and Sign Language Interpreter  as well as a Cued Speech Transliterator for the deaf and hard of hearing students for many years.  She is currently teaching HS ASL I, II and III, JH Intro to Foreign Language, and JH Art here at CCCS. 


Mrs. ANTOINETTE Duran

Mrs. Duran earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Biblical & Theological Studies from Biola University as well as a Master of Arts degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University.  Mrs. Duran is currently working on a Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership with an Emphasis in K-12 Leadership from Grand Canyon University.  Mrs. Duran teaches World History, 11th Grade U.S. History, and ECP History where students receive dual credit for high school and college.  In addition to teaching, Mrs. Duran is our High School Varsity Cheering Coach.  


Mr. Keith Durflinger

Mr. Durflinger teaches yearbook and photography at CCCS. He has attended Rio Hondo College and Cal State Long Beach majoring in Journalism and Photojournalism. He has worked for various newspapers as a photographer for over 30 years covering news in Southern California. His work has been in publications worldwide.


Mrs. Patty Fidanza

Patty Fidanza has been teaching at CCCS since 1997! She is blessed to teach drama to both Junior High and High School students. Mrs. Fidanza graduated from Cal State Long Beach with a BA in Sociology. She has always had a passion for the Arts, especially drama. She has also belonged to a theater group for many years working behind the scenes, being an understudy, and having acting roles. This has exposed her to all the elements of a production from back stage to on stage. Her favorite part of teaching drama is watching the students blossom.


Ms. Janette Fragoso

Janette Fragoso joined our faculty in the 2011. She is a CCCS alumna, class of 2006. Miss Fragoso is another of the many alumni teaching here at CCCS. Miss Fragoso earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Work at Azusa Pacific University and is looking forward to another exciting year teaching Spanish I, II and III at the High School level. 


Ms. Amy Harris

Miss Amy Harris earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Biology with a minor in Theological Studies from Biola University. She is currently teaching Biology, Honors Biology, and ECP Anatomy and Physiology and has taught other math and science classes in previous years. Currently she pursuing her single subject Teaching Credential and Master's Degree in Education from Hope International University. Miss Harris is also the Junior High Cheer Coach at CCCS. She is excited to help her students and athletes see God’s hand in all aspects of their lives. 


Mr. Vincent Garcia

Vincent Garcia is a Calvary Chapel Christian School alumnus. He graduated in 2006 as part of the Kindergarten Club. While at CCCS he participated in ASB, Football, Soccer, Baseball, and Track & Field. Now, as our new Jr. High Athletic Director and the JH & HS Boys PE teacher, he is blessed to be helping & interacting with students, parents and coaches. This year Mr. Garcia will also be an assistant coach for our Varsity Football team, as well as the head coach for our Boys Varsity Soccer team. He is newly married to his beautiful wife Brittany (Perez) Garcia, also a class of 2006 alumna.


Mr. Andrew Hernandez

Andrew Hernandez is an alumnus of CCCS.  He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music in Worship from Biola University, with an emphasis in Piano Performance.  At CCCS, he played in the Worship Band, the Marching/Pep Band and in the Jazz Band. He is a member of the Calvary Chapel Downey worship team. He has been a worship leader for many years and has helped train young worship teams in the LA area and has taught private music lessons in piano, guitar, bass, drums and saxophone for over 10 years. In addition to overseeing the HS and JH worship teams,  he is the director for the Elementary Band and JH/HS Band and teaches the Contemporary Piano/Guitar Class as well.


Mr. Steve Jahnkow

Steve Jahnkow earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of La Verne. This will be his 29th year serving our students and parents here at CCCS. Mr. Jahnkow currently teaches HS Bible and Apologetics which is a 12th grade Bible class and is the Master Teacher over various departments. Throughout these years he has coached baseball, men/women's basketball & football.


Mrs. Amber Linn

Mrs. Linn currently teaches 11th Grade English for both College Prep and Honors. She began her upper education at Northwestern College in Minnesota before transferring to Long Beach State where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.


Mr. Bob Kemblowski

Coach Bob Kemblowski has been on Staff for the past four years instructing the Strength and Conditioning classes. He has been weight training for 45 years. Coach Kemblowski won numerous gold medals in both team and individual competitions and currently still holds six national and two world records. Coach Kemblowski’s focus is to introduce the students to the proper techniques of training with weights and core conditioning. The ultimate goal of The Strength and Conditioning Class is to get the student bigger, stronger and faster.


Mrs. Devin Loreto

Coach Devin Loreto is an alumna of CCCS, graduate of 2004. Currently serving as the Girl’s PE Teacher, Elementary PE Teacher, and HS Girl’s Soccer Coach. Coach Loreto graduated from CSULB in 2014 with her B.A. in Recreation and Leisure Studies, as well as a certificate in Non-profit Management and Therapeutic Recreation. She had previously worked for the City of Downey for over ten years providing various program activities and sporting events. She currently has two children attending CCCS as well.


Mr. Daniel Lopez

Daniel Lopez is an alumnus of CCCS, graduating in the class of 2006.  During his time at Calvary, he wrestled for the school and later volunteered as an Assistant Coach after High School graduation. Mr. Lopez earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from California State University, Fullerton.  Mr. Lopez currently teaches HS Physics, JH Pre-Algebra, JH Algebra I, JH & HS Fundamentals of Math and is also the Head Wrestling Coach for both the High School team and Junior High program. 


Ms. Monica Manjarrez

Ms. Manjarrez holds an Associate of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from California State University Dominguez Hills, earned her Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Hope International University, and is currently working on her Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Grand Canyon University. Ms. Manjarrez has experience teaching in Southern California since 2014 in both public and private school settings. She currently teaches 9th & 10th Grade English and enjoys coaching our Powder Puff team and being an Assistant Coach for our softball team.


Mrs. Darleen Mayorga

Darleen Mayorga is an alumna of CCCS. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from California State University Los Angeles. She went on to earn her credential and Masters in Teaching from Biola University. She has taught English for eight years in the High School and now teaches 12th Grade English at the College Prep level, Honors level, and the ECP level for college credit.


Mrs. Aracely Mendoza

Aracely Mendoza comes with a business background of 22 years.  Owning her own business, she was able to develop many valuable skills which she is now very happy to use at CCCS.  Her involvement in the Missions Ministry and taking many of our students to the Orphanage in Mexico, planning and preparing meals for approximately 100 people has equipped her to teach the Cooking/Culinary Arts Classes. In addition she also very involved with our International Student Program and oversees our website department and substitute teachers.  She is always willing to serve where needed most at CCCS.


Mr. Thomas Miller

Mr. Miller is overseeing our JH and HS Woodshop classes at CCCS. He started as a volunteer for the Woodshop class and then officially came on staff in 2017-2018. Mr. Miller has been teaching our students wood working for the past two years. He has an extensive background in woodshop and cabinet making. His love for wood working first became apparent when he was taught cabinet making at Huntington Park HS.


Mr. Tim Osterhoudt

Tim Osterhoudt earned a Master's of Engineering Degree in Process Engineering from California State University at Pomona. He also earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from California State University at Long Beach. He serves CCCS as a High School teacher in various subjects. Mr. Osterhoudt currently teaches Pre-Calculus, Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Calculus, ECP Calculus and AP Physics at the High School level.


Mrs. Sheila Rodriguez

Sheila Rodriguez earned a Bachelors Degree in Art with an emphasis in Drawing and Painting as well as a Masters of Fine Art from Long Beach State University.  She has shown her work at several galleries and museums across the U.S. including the Museum of Latin American Art and the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art. Mrs. Rodriguez is excited to be teaching AP Art, ECP Art Appreciation, Sculpture, Drawing, and Painting.


Mr. Geoff Smith

Mr. Smith has been a part of Calvary Chapel for more than 20 years. After helping to plant a church in Irvine, CA, he move to Ukraine and served as a missionary and a pastor for nearly 10 years. Mr. Smith received his Bachelor of Science Degree from UCLA in Applied Mathematics. He has also graduated from the Calvary Chapel School of Ministry and is in the process of earning his Master's in Education with an emphasis in Secondary Level Mathematics from Hope International University. He will be teaching HS Pre-Algebra, HS Algebra I, and JH/HS Geometry.


Mr. Erik Tallakson

Mr. Tallakson graduated from Life Pacific Bible College where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies with an emphasis in youth ministry. He has also earned a teaching credential in math from California State University, Bakersfield. His experience consists of teaching Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 at a public charter High School. He is excited to be teaching Algebra 2 and Physical Science at Calvary Chapel Downey High School. He is married and has two wonderful children. His desire is for not only his children but those in his classroom to receive an education that is glorifying to God.


 

Support Staff

Mrs. Bernadette Cotton

Bernadette Cotton has been working at Calvary Chapel Christian School since 2000.  She has a wealth of knowledge and experience of the interior workings of CCCS.  Over the years, Bernadette has worked in numerous departments which include the Lunchroom, Summer Day Camp, Accounting, HS TSR, Athletics and the Junior High/High School Office.  Currently Bernadette has taken the role as JH/HS Registrar.  She thoroughly enjoys serving in the Junior High & High School and loves interacting with the parents and students. Bernadette is married and has 3 wonderful children and 1 granddaughter.  Her life verse is Psalm 71.


Mrs. Denisse Cardenas

Denisse has been our High School ASB Director for the past four  years. Prior to ASB Director she worked in our Pre-School as a Pre-School teacher. She works alongside the High School students encouraging them to be the student leaders of the school. These students organize and serve at all of the school events. Her main goal is to increase and encourage both school spirit and spirituality on our campus.


Mrs. Patricia Maciel

Patricia has been working with CCCS since 2014 as a Junior High/High School Secretary.  She enjoys being available to help students and parents.  She worked as an Office Secretary at CCD from 1982 to 1989 when she made the decision to become a stay home mom. She has been a Pastor’s Wife since 1985 and feels privileged to support her husband in ministry all these years.  She is blessed with two beautiful daughters.


Mrs. Heather Naaktgeboren

Heather has been the Office Manager for the Junior High & High School office since 2018. She has been attending Calvary Chapel Downey since 1979 and has been involved in various ministries here. Heather graduated from Calvary Chapel Bible College in 1995 with Associates in Theology. She has been a pastor’s wife for 18 years, mother to 4 teenagers, and has spent 10-1/2 years on the mission field in South Africa with her family where Pastor Chad, her husband of 19 years, planted Calvary Chapel Johannesburg in 2007.


Mr. Emmanuel Lara

Emmanuel Lara graduated from Long Beach Poly High School. He has earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation & Leisure Studies from California State University, Long Beach. Emmanuel started working at CCCS in June as an Athletics Department Assistant and an Assistant Football Coach. Prior to being in the Athletic Office, he coached at Warren High School and Long Beach Poly High School. Emmanuel will be assisting in the athletic office as the School Transportation Coordinator.


Mrs. Staci Nieves

Staci Nieves has been in the Athletic Office for the last 8 years, she is blessed to be helping & interacting with students, parents and coaches. Prior to being in the Athletic Office, she served in the High School Office, and as a Teacher’s Assistant on the Elementary side.  Staci is married to her husband of 27 years, has 2 children, a daughter who attended CCCS from K-12, graduating in 2014 and a son who is in the 11th grade.  God is good and faithful!
